Planning on buying, or better yet, adopting a pet? Well, here are just some few common things to remember before you can finally call yourself a pet owner.
1. The first step isn't that hard at all. Try to figure out right from the top of your head what your ideal pet would be. I mean, I'm sure you have an idea of what your favorite pet would be by now.
2. Use internet, books, even magazines to research more about the different kinds and breeds (pure breed, mixed breed, etc) about the specific animal you finally chose.
3. Once you've chosen what you really want, it's time to research about general pet care, laws dealing with ownership, and the specific animal's care. You need to be fully knowledgeable and aware of the responsibility of having a pet.
Note: Sometimes, the gender of the pet may matter because male/female in pets are different in a lot of areas. It might relate to their personality as well. Research, research.
Some questions to consider: do you want a playful pet? quiet, reserved? good with people? good with kids? good with other animals? is the pet going to live inside or outside your house? etc.
4. If you think you're ready and sure that you want to get a pet of your own, go to a local petstore or animal shelter. I really suggest to adopt a pet. It will save you money, but the important part also is that you will give at least one of these abandoned, sold, abused pets a loving, safe, and healthy home.
Of course if its a fish, or small pets (hamster, etc) you can buy from a petstore or a specific breeder.
Note: Usually, breeders' animals are healthier and live longer. No offense. Research on the breeders credibility though!
5. Look around the shelter or adoption site for your "perfect pet."
6. BEFORE TAKING YOUR PET HOME, get the required stuff for your pet; food, shelter, grooming materials, toys (optional), etc. You need to be prepared for your pet's arrival to your home.
7. Once you now how to take care of your pet, and learn along the way to housebreak them(get them used to your house and you), then you're all set to living a happy, HECTIC, but definitely rewarding life with your pet.
